407 Rates To Increase by 1.65 Cents Per Kilometer In 2008

{{chris}} The 407 ETR Company announced rate increases of 1.65 cents per kilometer for light vehicles during peak hours for 2008.

407 ETR announced today that light-vehicle tolls during peak hours will increase by 1.65 cents per kilometre on February 1, 2008

My office happens to be in Woodbridge just because it’s a convenient location for my other three partners in the business. Fortunately the business we are in allows us to work from home so I do that three days a week. However, this rate increase is not welcomed! I drive the 407 twice a week and let me tell you  – it is not cheap – and that’s with a transponder. Each time they raise the rates will make me drive the 407 even less despite how convenient it may be!

Do you drive the 407 ? What do you think about the cost of using it?

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto Was Assassinated

{{chris}} Sadly, former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated.

I like many of you have been following the news in Pakistan over the last few months as the country fights for democracy. When Benazir Bhutto finally returned to Pakistan from exile I was excited for the country as it
Benazir Bhutto
appeared that the planned free and democrated elections were going to take place.

She survived one suicide bomber but having been turned down by the government for extra security she was finally killed today. What a tragedy for a country so desperately seeking to hold onto it’s democratic process.

Now it’s up to the people of Pakistan to fight for the freedom that is rightly theirs. Hopefully things will end up alright for that country – we should all hope. Pakistan has a key role to play within international politics and that has a direct impact on us all.

I Was In Las Vegas!

{{chris}} I had the great pleasure of attending the PubCon conference in Las Vegas this past week!

You heard me right – Vegas, baby! It was my first time there and I have to say it’s quite the amazing place. In fact, it’s almost like a separate country from the US altogether. We stayed at the MGM Grand which was just fantastic. If you’ve never been to Vegas before, here is a few ways of describing it:

  1. Super Clean. Everything is spotless in and around the strip. Not a corner is overlooked!
  2. Open 24 hours. Everything is open 24×7 and you can gamble all night long.
  3. There is a monorail with affordable trip rates which runs the length of the strip stopping at all of the major casinos along the way. Saves you feet from having to do all the walking
  4. Friendly. Clearly many staff make money from tips – so be prepared for an outlandish amount of help and kindness
  5. Affordable. Believe it or not the price of restaurants and what not is quite affordable. While you can easily find a meal for $1k / plate, you can just as easily have a dinner for two under $60.
  6. Smells Great! Every Casino it seems pumps fresh “oxygen” not just air along with scents into the casino rooms and hallways. Nothing like staying up late and not getting tired cause your inhaling copious amounts of oxygen!
  7. You can take your drink with you! Anywhere on the strip you can take your beer or cocktail with you. From one bar or casino to the next without having to put it into a plastic cup. Guess what! Not a smashed bottle or drop of beer on the sidewalks or floors anywhere! Visitors respect the privilege and when accidents happen there is a crack squad of cleaning staff that cleans up immediately!

That’s just a few ways to describe the place. It really was an amazing place. It’s like a Disney World for adults!

We Celebrated Marissa’s Birthday Last Night!

{{chris}} Last night we celebrated Marissa’s birthday!

It’s that time of year again – Declan’s Birthday, Marissa’s Birthday, My moms birthday, Christmas and then New Years – it’s a really busy time but we love every minute of it!

So last night a bunch of us got together at Riley’s Olde Town Pub where we had a fantastic time. The pub was busy but not overcrowded – Lance our server was on top of us the entire time, and the chef’s Prime Rib Dinner was outstanding.

Our company was great and Marissa had a good time! Thanks everyone for coming out with us to celebrate!
