The Gallery Cafe – Elegant And Affordable

The Gallery Cafe is an outstanding restaurant offering fantastic food in an elegant atmosphere and at an affordable price.

I celebrated my 35th birthday last night with family and we did it at The Gallery Cafe. In fact, we had first planned to go to a different restaurant but because they were booked up we had an hour and half wait. So my wife called up The Gallery Cafe and sure enough they were able to pull some tables together for our party of 8 and seat us immediately.

The menu was impeccable, the service outstanding, and of course the view is always good from every table. Thanks to the Gallery Cafe for an outstanding evening.

If you’re looking for the perfect place for a special date, anniversary or event I  highly recommend you check out the cafe!

Ice Cream & Play Areas!

Oh to be five again and eat ice cream while running around play areas! Having a five year old is just like being five again myself!

This afternoon I was able to pick my son up from daycare and decided to take him to the dreaded “M” for dinner. He’s a good boy and earned the outing. So we headed off to the restaurant – had a nice quick meal and then headed into the play area.

I have to admit it’s too much fun watching five year olds play together. The bunch that were there tonight were really nice and despite running around like little mad men no one got hurt! In fact they had a lot of fun together. The best part – watching some of them try new things they’d never done before and how excited and proud of themselves after having done it. Priceless.

The bottom line is I love spending time with my son and other kids too. They are so much fun and it simply reminds me of when I was a kid.

If you’ve got kids – I recommend you spend as much time with them as you can. They grow up so fast unless you pay attention you’ll miss it all.

Oysters & Muscles

When attending University in Halifax I had an opportunity to consume an abundant amount of shellfish including crabs, lobsters, muscles and oysters. I’m a huge seafood fan!

I recall many lobster fests where we’d sit around a picnic table with a pile of chilled lobsters on newspaper and we’d simply sit, crack shells, eat and laugh. Those meals were one heck of a lot of fun.

On more formal nights out we’d go to The Five Fisherman in Halifax. They have an all you can eat muscle bar that comes with your meal. Now that was one of my favorites! Buckets of muscles followed by a nice shrimp dinner!

While there I never had occasion to eat any oysters. It was always muscles. Now that I’m married I can’t eat as much shellfish as I’d like since my wife has an alergy to it – a pretty bad one in fact. So when I was in Las Vegas before Christmas I had an opportunity to try Oysters Rockefeller at a really great steak house near our hotel! Now I happen to be hooked and I’m craving them all the time!

Now that I’m hooked on them I’ve been doing more research about the safety of eating raw oysters and discovered there are processes that can be applied to make it much safer – the most well known and most commonly used post harvest process is called IQF. IQF is a flash freezing process and the oysters are usually packed and served on the half shell and preserves the flavor as though they were fresh out of the water. You can find out more about this and other post harvest processes at Gulf oysters. Now that I know that I have no reservations what so ever and am looking for my next chance to order some!

Oshawa To Get Ethanol Processing Plant!

Oshawa is set to get an Ethanol processing plant located in the waterfront to the east of the harbour.

Personally I think this is great news! It’s going to bring some extra jobs and money into the city. It’ll lessen our reliance on the automotive industry and if the City of Oshawa does their job well the investors in this plant will also have to include some funds to clean up the surrounding area bit too!

What do you think about this new plan?

When Will The City Take Responsibility For The City?

{{chris}} I’m asking – when will the city take responsibility for the city?

Not long after the end of the Downtown Action Committee and the end to events like the Celtic Festival, Oshawa City Council is now cracking down on Not For Profits to clean up graffiti. As we’ve heard from a few of the affected Not For Profits – they actually do their best to clean it up when it happens. However, they are not flushed with cash and often times rely on volunteers and donations to make the repairs. Despite their efforts the city has chosen to send sternly worded letters instead of recognizing their existing efforts and encouraging them to do better.

In business I’ve always known that a softer approach to all situations is always better to a hard one. Why the City could not have approached the Not For Profits with a sincere desire to improve the clean up process no will know. Perhaps it was the easiest thing to do – often times that approach often wins out despite being the less productive solution.

A better City of Oshawa certainly starts with the citizens – but we need the support of our elected officials to lead properly from the top. Hopefully, City Council has heard the residents and Not For Profits and they’ll start dealing with these situations more smartly in the future.

What do you think?

Winter Rages On Part IV

This weekend has proved it – we’ve broken many snow records this winter. Apparently we have one more snowfall coming this week.

Fortunately I have some wonderful neighbors and they pitched in by snow blowing many of our driveways. With a few extra shovels we had it all cleaned up in a couple of hours.

I for one have had enough snow. It’s been nice to have it cold and white but we’re into March and it really should be warming up by now.

So we’ll just have to be patient and wait for mother nature to send the warmer weather our way! In the meantime I hope that the rest of the neighbors in your area pitch and help clean up too!
