Worst Parking Job Ever

October 28, 2009
Torstar News Service

Websites around the world are picking up a video from Thornhill of one of the world’s worst parking jobs, and police are hopeful it will help find the driver.

Someone piloting a BMW SUV X5 in the Extreme Fitness lot pulled into a space and kept going, up and over two parked cars. One of them belongs to Todd Jamison, systems administrator at the gym, whose voice shook Wednesday when he described how his car was destroyed. The other reportedly was a rental car.

“It sort of sucks,” he said. The rogue mini-van backed off Jamison’s 2004 Hyundai Elantra and another car, then stopped, paused, backed out of the space and drove slowly out of the lot.

York Regional Police have been looking for the hit-and-run driver since the demolition derby Oct. 22.

“If they are sitting at home feeling bad, they should call us and talk,” York Const. Marina Orlovski said encouragingly. “They would probably feel better about talking about it.”

The damage to Jamison’s car was “quite extensive,” she said and the SUV probably damaged its undercarriage.

Jamison and police had few leads. The surveillance camera at the lot on Yonge Street in Thornhill failed to pick up the licence plate or clearly show the driver or passengers.

“We don’t know if the driver is male or female or if there’s one person or five in the vehicle,” said Orlovski. She paused.

“You certainly don’t see that everyday.”

How long does it take to pave a road?

I’ve never really thought about it today. Seems to me that it can be done overnight in the case of the 401 sometimes. In other cases it can take months – maybe even years.

I’m thinking about it because Harmony Road near my house feels like it’s been being paved all summer long. I don’t think that’s actually the case but it sure feels like it.

If anyone out there knows how fast a road can be paved post a comment and let us know!

When Will Ritson Road Be Paved?

I now live in the North East end of Oshawa but I still frequently drive down Ritson Road in the south on my way onto the 401. Its as bad today as it was years ago when I lived on Ritson near Olive Street. It is quite possibly the worst maintained road in the city. I understand it’s a regional road and therefor not the responsibility of the City of Oshawa. However, the road remains smack dab in the middle of Oshawa. So it would be nice if our elected council did something to pressure the region into fixing it.

Perhaps one day they will. Until then I have little faith in our City to get it fixed and I’ll continue to drive exrtremely slow down Ritson for fear of damaging my car.

407 Rates To Increase by 1.65 Cents Per Kilometer In 2008

{{chris}} The 407 ETR Company announced rate increases of 1.65 cents per kilometer for light vehicles during peak hours for 2008.

407 ETR announced today that light-vehicle tolls during peak hours will increase by 1.65 cents per kilometre on February 1, 2008

My office happens to be in Woodbridge just because it’s a convenient location for my other three partners in the business. Fortunately the business we are in allows us to work from home so I do that three days a week. However, this rate increase is not welcomed! I drive the 407 twice a week and let me tell you  – it is not cheap – and that’s with a transponder. Each time they raise the rates will make me drive the 407 even less despite how convenient it may be!

Do you drive the 407 ? What do you think about the cost of using it?
