The Gallery Cafe – Elegant And Affordable

The Gallery Cafe is an outstanding restaurant offering fantastic food in an elegant atmosphere and at an affordable price.

I celebrated my 35th birthday last night with family and we did it at The Gallery Cafe. In fact, we had first planned to go to a different restaurant but because they were booked up we had an hour and half wait. So my wife called up The Gallery Cafe and sure enough they were able to pull some tables together for our party of 8 and seat us immediately.

The menu was impeccable, the service outstanding, and of course the view is always good from every table. Thanks to the Gallery Cafe for an outstanding evening.

If you’re looking for the perfect place for a special date, anniversary or event I  highly recommend you check out the cafe!

Oysters & Muscles

When attending University in Halifax I had an opportunity to consume an abundant amount of shellfish including crabs, lobsters, muscles and oysters. I’m a huge seafood fan!

I recall many lobster fests where we’d sit around a picnic table with a pile of chilled lobsters on newspaper and we’d simply sit, crack shells, eat and laugh. Those meals were one heck of a lot of fun.

On more formal nights out we’d go to The Five Fisherman in Halifax. They have an all you can eat muscle bar that comes with your meal. Now that was one of my favorites! Buckets of muscles followed by a nice shrimp dinner!

While there I never had occasion to eat any oysters. It was always muscles. Now that I’m married I can’t eat as much shellfish as I’d like since my wife has an alergy to it – a pretty bad one in fact. So when I was in Las Vegas before Christmas I had an opportunity to try Oysters Rockefeller at a really great steak house near our hotel! Now I happen to be hooked and I’m craving them all the time!

Now that I’m hooked on them I’ve been doing more research about the safety of eating raw oysters and discovered there are processes that can be applied to make it much safer – the most well known and most commonly used post harvest process is called IQF. IQF is a flash freezing process and the oysters are usually packed and served on the half shell and preserves the flavor as though they were fresh out of the water. You can find out more about this and other post harvest processes at Gulf oysters. Now that I know that I have no reservations what so ever and am looking for my next chance to order some!

Christmas Is Over and Valentines Day Is Coming!

{{chris}} Christmas is over and Valentines Day is on it’s way! What is everybody doing this year?

Yup, it’s true. Christmas is over, the lights and decorations are down. We’re ready for summer. Unfortunately we have a few more weeks of winter left. Yeah, usually the worst weeks of winter actually. Fortunately, Valentines Day is on the way!

So I’m getting ready for it. I’m not sure what I’ll do, but it will likely include dinner at one of Oshawa’s finest restaurants like Soprafino’s which happens to be where I met my wife! If you want a romantic dinner – that’s the place to go!

Hopefully the rest of you other there are thinking about this special holiday too. I guarantee you should prepare otherwise you’ll regret it later – trust me!

An Interesting Day At the Restaurants Yesterday!

{{chris}} My family and I had a most interesting day with restaurants yesterday. One bad experience, and one very pleasant.

It started out on Friday quite frankly. Normally, we order dinner out on Fridays as it’s a special evening of family time and movies. However, we opted to skip dinner out and instead have breakfast at our favorite breakfast buffet.

We’ve been loyal customers of this family restaurant for at least five years now – since our son was born. In fact some of the staff have seen him grow up over the years. We’ve always had a wonderful time there. However, that changed yesterday. The restaurant was packed full teenagers – which for the most part was fine. One group on the other hand was completely out of control and were letting loose a montage of profanities every few minutes at the top of their lungs. Despite many complaints from our selves and other families the manager was reluctant to do anything. At one point a group of patrons asked the teens to cut it out. After another round of complaints to the manager he finally asked mall security to handle it. By that point though, breakfast was ruined for most of the patrons sitting around this group, and even before security arrived a final outburst from the group was enough to send us all packing.

The manager was kind enough to comp our breakfast for us, but I think that’s only because he knew we were long time customers. Others that were affected by this did not get the same treatment.

Whatever happened to the restaurant owner standing up for the rights of his loyal customers and chasing bad elements out of their restaurant? I own a business myself, and I do what it takes to protect my customers. If I owned a restaurant I would have immediately told the group that their meals were free but that they would have to leave immediately otherwise I’d be calling the cops because they are disturbing the peace. I may have even gone one step further and gave all of the affected customers a discount that day, or a free something or other they next time they came back.

As it stands, the restaurant earned themselves some bad customers, and lost some really good ones. Too bad for them – they are not the only ones who serve breakfast!

That was our morning. That evening was interesting. We decided to try eating out again since we felt let down by our morning adventure but we were debating on whether or not to order in our go out. At our sons request we finally opted to go out for pizza at Pizza Hut and the nearest one we can think of was downtown Oshawa. So we drove off and just as we’re pulling into the driveway, my aunt and uncle pull up. Low and behold my cousin is celebrating a birthday and it’s at this Pizza Hut. I have a HUGE family and we don’t always get together because of the size factor. So, we ended up having a great dinner at the restaurant. The staff were great, the company was outstanding! On top of that. the waitress accidentally ordered an extra pizza for the table, and without any question provided it to us for free. That’s service!

So what started off as a bad day at the restaurants wound up being a great day!
